Semenya has high level of testosterone

The British Broadcasting Corporation is reporting that tests have revealed that world champion Caster Semenya\'s testosterone level is three times higher than those normally expected in a female sample.

The 18-year-old South African big improvement prompted calls for a gender test from the sport\'s governing body.

The call for gender test was made public only hours before Semenya won the women’s 800 metres in Berlin.

A high level of the hormone does not always equate to a failed drugs test.

Semenya returned home to a heroine’s welcome today. Furious South Africans have accused the International Association of Athletics Federations of everything from racism to imperialism for ordering a test after her rapid improvement.

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt was the star at the World Championships with three gold medals including world records in the 100 and 200 metres.
