Economist warns against debts

A regional economist is advising Caribbean governments against saddling themselves with more debt to stave off the effects of the financial recession.



Dr Avinash Persaud, a financial advisor to the Group of 20 leading economies, has urged regional Governments to make greater use of multilateral development agencies to help to provide economic growth.



Dr Persaud is raising questions about the recent move by several Caribbean countries to approach the International Monetary Fund, IMF.



He has also questioned the impact of national stimulus packages across the region.
