Allen Stanford hospitalized

Jailed Texan financier Sir Allen Stanford has been taken to a hospital in Houston in the United States.
Sir Allen’s attorney Dick DeGuerin said he was s rushed to a hospital in the neighbouring Conroe early this morning with a high pulse rate.
Medical personnel at the Conroe Regional Medical Center, where Stanford was taken, declined to disclose medical information about him.
The financier was scheduled to appear in a US federal court today for a hearing.
The court is to determine whether he can get a new attorney to defend him against charges that he swindled US$7 billion from investors in a massive Ponzi scheme involving his Antigua-based Stanford International Bank (SIB).
