No Bolt, Gay showdown at Van Damme

The planned showdown between the world’s fastest man Jamaican Usain Bolt and American Tyson Gay at the Van Damme Memorial in Brussels, Belgium on Friday has been cancelled.

Bolt, who won the 100 and 200-metre events in world record times at the world championships in Berlin, has decided to run the 200 metres in Brussels.

Gay says he will not switch from the 100 at the last Golden League meet of the season.

He says a lingering groin injury will prevent him from running an effective curve, forcing him to concentrate on the 100 instead.

Over the 100 metres, he will face former world-record holder Asafa Powell of Jamaica instead.
