US eases Cuba travel restrictions

The United States has eased restrictions on travel to Cuba by Cuban Americans and the amount of money they can send to relatives.

The new regulations from the Treasury Department reflect changes that were announced by President Barack Obama in April in a bid to ease tensions with Cuba and promote contact.

Travelers from the US will now be able to visit a broader range of relatives in Cuba instead of just parents and children, and may spend up to $180 a day.

US telecom firms are also being exempted from Washington’s economic embargo of the island, and will be able to offer connection services.
