Briton Andy Murray expects his toughest test today at the US Open when he plays 16th seed Marin Cilic of Croatia for a place in the last eight.
The 22 year old Murray breezed past Taylor Dent to make the last 16, while Cilic recorded an equally impressive victory against Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin.
Meanwhile, Number One Roger Federer of Switzerland won his 38th straight match at the U.S. Open yesterday to move into the quarterfinals.
Federer defeated Number 12 Tommy Robredo 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
His next match will come against Number 12 Robin Soderling, whom he beat in straight sets earlier this year in the French Open final to complete his career Grand Slam.
Soderling advanced when Number 8 Nikolay Davydenko retired with a leg injury at the start of the fourth set.
In women’s action Melanie Oudin extended her remarkable run to the quarterfinals with another come-from-behind victory.
She defeated 13th seeded Nadia Petrova 1-6, 7-6, 6-3.
In other women\'s matches, Kateryna Bondarenko and Yanina Wickmayer won to set up a quarterfinal between two players ranked in the 50s.
