T&T out of World Cup qualifying race
Trinidad and Tobago were knocked out of the 2010 World Cup qualifying race last night when the USA beat them 1-0 in their CONCACAF qualifier at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad.
Ricardo Clarke scored a fine goal in the 62nd minute to sink the spirited T&T Soca Warriors, who needed a win to keep their slim hopes of reaching South Africa 2010 alive.
In other CONCACAF qualifying games last night, hosts Mexico edged Honduras 1-0 at Estadio Azteca and El Salvador scored a similar 1-0 victory over Costa Rica.
With two rounds of matches remaining next month to wrap up qualifying, the United States lead with 16 points.
Mexico have 15, Honduras 13 and Costa Rica 12. El Salvador are next on 8 points, while Trinidad have 5.
The first three teams advance automatically to next year\'s World Cup in South Africa, while the fourth-placed team faces a playoff with the Number 5 in South America, presently Argentina, for another berth.
