Juan Martin del Potro overcame a sluggish start and blustery wind to defeat Croatian Marin Cilic 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 in the U.S. Open quarterfinals last night.
It was sixth-seeded del Potro\'s first match inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, which produced his second trip to a Grand Slam semifinal.
Other quarterfinal winners were defending champion Roger Federer of Switzerland, who beat Robin Soderling of Sweden and Novak Djokvic of Serbia, who defeated Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.
Federer will take on Djokvic in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the women’s semifinals are scheduled for today with Number 9 seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark against 50th-ranked Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium and American Serena Williams against Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
