Guyana Panel formed to combat drought

The Guyana Government has formed a special task force to monitor the effects of the severe lack of rainfall.

The current dry spell began in July and the country\'s Met Office has said it could last until the first quarter of 2010.

The next rainy season traditionally begins in mid December.

More than 30 of Guyana\'s Gross Domestic Product reportedly comes from agriculture.

Authorities say the agriculture sector is facing the most severe threat from the drought.
