Slow hurricane season because of El Nino

Weather forecasters are crediting El Nino for the rather calm Atlantic hurricane season so far.

El Nino is marked by the warming of the central Pacific Ocean and changes in wind direction and air pressure that can affect weather around the world.

Forecasters say the periodic climate phenomenon is suppressing tropical storm development in the Caribbean and Atlantic.

There have been just six named storms so far, none of them making landfall in the Caribbean.
