Hosts Sri Lanka set a victory target of 320 by India were 262 for seven after 44 overs in the final of the triangular one-day series for the Compaq Cup in Colombo.
The batsmen at the crease are Thilina Kandamby on 66 and Nuwan Kulasekara on 8.
Harbhajan Singh has so far taken three for 50 off eight overs.
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar clobbered 138 and put on 85 for the opening wicket with Rahual Dravid, 30, to give India a solid start.
Other good contributions came from captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni 56 and Yuvraj Singh 56 not out as India ended on 319 for five off their allotted 50 overs.
Thilan Thushara was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka with two for 71 off 10 overs.
