A children\'s rights group is reporting that a 12-year-old Yemeni girl, who was forced into marriage, has died during childbirth that also killed her baby.

The Seyaj Organisation for the Protection of Children says, Fawziya Ammodi, struggled for three days in labour, before dying of severe bleeding at a hospital.

The group’s President Ahmed al-Qureshi says although the lack of medical care contributed to the child’s death, the real tragedy is that child marriages continue in Yemen.

The 12-year-old girl who was born in a poor family was forced to drop out of school and marry a 24-year-old man last year.

The rights group says child brides are commonplace in Yemen, especially in the Red Sea Coast where tribal customs are very strong.
