Powell, Walker win in Poland

Former world record holder Asafa Powell dominated the field to win the 100 meters in 9.82 seconds at the Pedro’s Cup in Poland today.



Powell got off to a fast start and won ahead of his Jamaican teammates -- Nesta Carter, who placed second in 10.10, and Michael Frater, who ended third in 10.23.



Jamaica claimed three other victories, through Olympic and World Champion Melaine Walker, Olympic silver medallist Sherone Simpson and Jovanne Jarrett.



Walker won the women’s 400-metre hurdles in 54.86; Simpson took the women’s 100 metres in 11.29 ahead of her Jamaican teammate Shericka Williams, who clocked 11.46; while Jarrett took the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.39 metres.



Meanwhile, American Tyson Gay, who skipped the 100 metres, cruised to victory in the 200. He clocked 20.21 seconds to finish ahead of Jeffrey Lawal-Balogun of Britain who clocked 20.85.



Ainsley Waugh of Jamaica was third in 21.10.
