Antigua\'s Finance Minister Harold Lovell says the government plans to minimise job cuts in an effort to reduce public spending.
Mr. Lovell says there will be no new employment unless there is clear and evident value added to the public service.
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer confirmed this week that his government will be seeking help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to shore up its finances.
Negotiations are to begin in the coming weeks.
The finance minister says the government is trying to control expenditure by other means other than job cuts.
