South Africa beat West Indies
The West Indies today suffered a heavy defeat to hosts South Africa in their unofficial warm-up match ahead of the Champions Trophy at Potchefstroom.
Chasing a victory target of 389, the Caribbean side was bowled out for 200 off 41.1 overs to lose by 188 runs.
All-rounder Darren Sammy top scored for the West Indies with 52 off 62 deliveries; while Dale Richards scored 41 off 42 balls and Andre’ Fletcher 35 off 40 balls.
Roelof van der Merwe was the most successful bowler for South Africa with four for 34.
Earlier, South Africa elected to bat and piled up 388 for four from their allotted 50 overs.
Four South African batsmen scored half centuries. Jacques Kallis led the way with 86, followed by Graeme Smith with 83, JP Duminy 80 not out and Mark Boucher 55.
Jamaican Dave Bernard Junior had best figures for the West Indies with two for 71; while Tino Best ended with two for 88.
In another warm up match, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 108 runs at Benoni. Scores in that game, Pakistan 306 for eight off their allotted 50 overs; Sri Lanka 198 off 46.5 overs.
The Champions Trophy runs from September 22 to October 5.
