West Indies beaten again
West Indies will enter their opening International Cricket Council Champions Trophy match against Pakistan on Wednesday without winning any of their two official warm-up matches.
The Caribbean side, without their top flight players because of contracts dispute with the board, lost their second warm-up match by five wickets to Sri Lanka at LC de Villiers Oval in South Africa yesterday.
Choosing to bat first, West Indies scored 201 off 45.1 overs with Devon Smith 67 and Dale Richards 59 the only significant scorers.
Sri Lanka replied with 202 for five off 47.3 overs with Darren Sammy picking up two wickets.
West Indies, tournament winners in England 2004 and runners-up two years later in India, are in Group ‘A’ alongside Australia, India and Pakistan.
Their other first-round fixtures are against Australia on Saturday, September 26 and India on Wednesday, September 30.
Group ‘B’ is made up of hosts South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England.
