Caribbean rum producers are expressing concern about the fate of unspent funds from the European Union that have been earmarked for a regional programme to modernise and promote the industry.
The European Union (EU) has already said that the programme will not be extended beyond the planned June 2010 end date.
The EU has also urged the region to utilise the remaining funds from the 70 million euro programme.
Chairman of the West Indies Rum and Spirits Association, Frank Ward, says such a move may not be that simple.
He says while money was given to the region, the actual programme was implemented by the association on behalf of the governments.
