Charity organisation announces water project for Haiti
The charity organisation Water.org has announced plans to launch a $2 million programme to provide safe water and sanitation to Haiti.
The organisation\'s co-founder, actor and activist Matt Damon, says Haiti remains in dire need of assistance following last year\'s devastating hurricanes.
He says urgent help is needed that will guarantee that Haitians have access to some of the most basic necessities.
According to Mr. Damon only 51 per cent of rural residents have access to drinking water, while only 29 per cent of urban areas have proper sanitation coverage.
He says Water.org is now committed to provide safe drinking water and sanitation to a minimum of 50,000 people over a three-year period in an effort to decrease the prevalence of water and sanitation-related diseases.
