Trinidad and Tobago’s second venture in the FIFA Under-20 World Championship begins today with a daunting opening match against hosts Egypt in front of an expected 80 thousand fans.
When they contested the 1991 FIFA Under 20 Finals in Portugal, T&T were beaten 6-0 by the Egyptians and the Caribbean side’s coach Zoran Vranes says his team will perform better this time around.
Vranes said his young side should encounter more pressure from the partisan atmosphere of the home stadium than the physical challenge of the opposing players.
T&T are underdogs for Group ‘A’ and they will complete the first-round phase with matches against Italy on September 28 and Paraguay on October 1.
The competition will run for 23 days and features 52 matches.
