Powell, Gay face off in South Korea
Former world 100-metre record holder Jamaican Asafa Powell and American Tyson Gay will headline the one-day Daegu Pre-Championships in South Korea tomorrow.
They will meet in the 100 metres with Gay the favourites after beating Powell four times so far this year. Powell scored only one victory over Gay this season in Brussels at the last Golden League meeting on September 4.
In their last race, the American record holder scored a great come from behind victory over the Jamaican in the World Athletics Final in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The race will also feature Jamaican Omar Brown.
The women’s 100 metres will feature four of the eight finalists at the Berlin World Championships, including two-time Olympic 200-metre champion Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown.
The other Berlin finalists are Americans Carmelita Jeter and Lauryn Williams and Chandra Strurrup of the Bahamas.
Jeter made the headlines just over a week ago after speeding to a 10.67 clocking in Thessaloniki to win the World Athletics Final in the third fastest 100-metre time in history.
Eight other Jamaicans are also down to compete including Berlin World Championship 100-metre hurdles gold medallist Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Beijing Olympic and Berlin World Championship 400-metre silver medallist Shericka Williams, who will compete in the 200 metres, Dwight Thomas and Danny McFarlane.
