Regional health ministers are slated to discuss the Influenza A (H1N1) virus at a meeting in Washington this weekend.
The CARICOM health ministers will hold talks from September 26-27 which will address a range of health issues in the Americas.
A statement from the Guyana-based Secretariat says that while CARICOM has recorded only six deaths out of 712 confirmed cases, the region still needs to be prepared for an expected increase in cases in the coming months.
The meeting is also expected to focus on progress towards the establishment of a Caribbean Public Health Agency.
