Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored his third hundred in four innings for Durham yesterday in the English County Championship.

Chanderpaul is currently out of the West Indies team because of the long-running contracts dispute between senior players and the West Indies Cricket Board.

The left-handed West Indies batsman scored an unbeaten 100. He shared an unbroken stand of 183 with former South Africa international Dale Benkenstein to help Durham reached 390-3, replying to Worcestershire’s first innings total of 356 at New Road.

Meanwhile, out-of-favour West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds of Jamaica made 37 in Derbyshire’s big first innings total of 474 against Essex. In their reply, Essex reached 166-2 at the close of play.

Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria collected the first hat trick of his career, as Essex took Derbyshire’s last seven wickets for 74 runs.
