West Indies players to return home from South Africa tonight

West Indies players will begin their long trek back to the Caribbean tonight from a bruising International Cricket Council Champions Trophy campaign in South Africa where they failed to win a single match.

The squad is scheduled to depart South Africa at 9 o’clock and is expected to arrive in Barbados tomorrow evening after connecting through London.

West Indies suffered a seven-wicket defeat to India in their final match at the Wanderers yesterday.

It was their third successive loss in Group ‘A’ after defeats to Pakistan in their opening match followed by Australia.

West Indies were represented by second-string players because of the ongoing contracts row between the elite players and the West Indies Cricket Board.

West Indies’ next overseas assignment is the three-Test series in Australia starting in November and efforts are already underway to broker deal, which would see a full strength team being selected.
