More than a hundred students in Venezuela have now joined a hunger strike in protest against the detention of government opponents.

More than 150 people are said to be taking part in the protest outside the office of the Organization of American States.

The hunger strike was launched last week by ten students.

The protesters say about 40 opponents of President Hugo Chavez are currently in jail for opposing the government.

But a government official says those in detention had engaged in violent actions.
