At least 76 people have been killed after three days of torrential rains in the Indian state of Karnataka.

Police say that at least 25 people have died since yesterday evening and that most victims were either washed away in rivers or died in house collapses.

The state government has requested military helicopters to help rescue hundreds of people who are still stranded.

Unofficial estimates put the death toll at almost 90 people.
