The Mayor of Belize City, Zenaida Moya Flowers, is maintaining her innocence after being charged with corruption.

The mayor was charged after a forensic audit of the City Council\'s accounts found that US$139,000 were unaccounted for.

She and three of her senior colleagues appeared in court yesterday to answer to the charges of forgery and misappropriating funds from the City Council.

She was granted bail at $15,000 and is due to return to court on November 5.

However the mayor is insisting that she’s being victimised by her own party, the governing United Democratic Party.
