St Lucia Peace initiative backfiring

A former St Lucia attorney general Philip La Corbiniere is reporting that a politically-led initiative to bring peace to some inner city hot spots has backfired.
He says the criminals have instead strengthened their positions.
Mr La Corbiniere says the initiative has also resulted in a new upsurge in gang-related activity.
His statement follows two gang-style murders in St Lucia last week.
Mr La Corbiniere says the so-called Peace and Love initiative to bring peace to troubled St Lucian communities should have learnt from the example of Jamaica, where similar programmes have not borne fruit.
