Three Iranian election protestors sentenced to death
An Iran news agency is reporting that three Iranians have been tentatively sentenced to death in connection with post-election protest activities.
The semi-official state media ISNA said the three, who were identified only by initials, are accused of contacts with opposition groups.
No other information has been released about the three defendants or the charges they face.
The news agency quotes the director of public relations of the Tehran judiciary, Bashiri Rad, as saying that the death sentences can be appealed.
Thousands of Iranians took to the streets in protest following the country\'s contested June 12 presidential election.
Incumbent President Manmoud Ahmadinejad won a second term despite widespread fraud accusations by supporters of opposition candidates.
