New medical board to oversee profession in St Kitts
The medical profession in St Kitts and Nevis is now under closer scrutiny, according to a report on www.caribbean360.com.
A new Medical Board, charged with regulating the practice of medicine in St Kitts and Nevis, has now been appointed.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Elvis Newton said the Board will also ensure that the medical practitioners meet the required high standards and provide professional services to their patients.
\"This is in keeping with our own local commitment to promote and provide adequate healthcare and well being of persons through the provision of ethical and professional services as well as our own commitment to several international institutions and agencies such as the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO),\" he said.
Minister of Health, Social and Community Development and Gender Affairs Rupert Herbert appointed six medical officers to the Board for a two-year period.
They include an obstetrician/gynaecologist, physician specialist, surgeon, dental specialist, general practitioner and the twin-island federation\'s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Patrick Martin.
