United States’ forward Charlie Davis was involved in a serious accident last night just ahead of the team final World Cup qualifier against a desperate Costa Rica later today at home.
The Americans already have earned a berth into next year\'s World Cup, but Costa Rica need to win at RFK Stadium to secure CONCACAF\'s third and final automatic spot.
United States coach Bob Bradley said the accident has hit the players very hard.
Davies is in serious condition after a lengthy surgery following a one-vehicle accident on a local highway.
Costa Rica, now coached by Rene Simoes, are third in the region with 15 points, two ahead of Honduras, which plays against already eliminated El Salvador.
