Finance officials in Antigua and Barbuda are now holding talks with a visiting team from the International Monetary Fund, IMF.
The governing United Progressive Party is seeking an assistance package from the Fund.
The government says it needs the package to help it realise fiscal and debt sustainability and to promote social protection and economic growth.
The opposition Antigua Labour Party does not back the move.
