West Indies women beat South Africa

Jamaican Stafanie Taylor hammered an undefeated 108 to guide West Indies to a five wicket victory over hosts South Africa in the opening One Day International of the four match women’s series at Boland Bank Park today.



Taylor cracked 11 fours and two sixes off 117 balls, as West Indies set 182 for victory and reached the target off 41 points, 3 overs.



Alicia Smith and Sunette Laubser took 2 wickets each for South Africa.



Earlier, South Africa made 181-7 off their allotted 50 overs, with Cri-zelda Brits top scoring with 48, while Mignon du Preez, Alicia Smith and Trisha Chetty supported with 25 runs each.



Cordel Jack, Stefanie Taylor, Pamela Lavine and Chadean Nation picked up a wicket a piece for West Indies.



The second match will take place in Cape Town on Sunday.



West Indies are using the series, which also includes three 20/20 matches, as part of preparation for the 2010 Women’s World 20/20 tournament in St Kitts next year.
