The United States Supreme Court is to consider whether Chinese Muslim detainees held at Guantanamo can be released into the US.
US President Barack Obama wants to close Guantanamo by early next year.
A number of ethnic Uighurs are still being held although the Pentagon cleared them in 2004.
The court will decide whether federal judges have the right to order their release into the US when no other country can be found to take them.
An appeals court ruled in February that federal judges did not have that power.
Meanwhile, the Obama administration has been trying to find a place to accommodate the remaining Uighur detainees.
