Opposition parties want drug kingpin probe
Guyana’s opposition political parties say they will step up pressure for an independent investigation into allegations made during the trial of convicted Guyanese drug dealer, Roger Khan in the United States.
During the trial allegations were raised that the drug kingpin has connections to some members of the government.
But, the Bharrat Jagdeo government has consistently denied having any links with Khan.
On Monday night, representatives of the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), the Alliance for Change, The Working People’s Alliance and the National Front Alliance, held a public meeting in the capital outlining plans for the probe.
PNCR Member of Parliament, Africo Selman said meetings would be held across the country to inform citizens and pressure the government to hold the probe.
However, Commissioner of Police, Henry Green, has said that the Guyana Police Force will await promised evidence gathered by United States authorities before deciding on its course of action.
