Refurbishing works on the running track at the National Stadium and the Stadium East field are expected to begin in a few weeks.

Minister of Sports Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange said the government has secured the funds needed to carry out the repairs through a bilateral agreement between Jamaica and Singapore.

Minister Grange said in return for funding the project, Singapore has made a special request for world record holder Usain Bolt to be among the delegation coming to the country to promote the World Youth Olympics.

However, Minister Grange said Bolt has not made a commitment as yet.

Minister Grange said Asafa Powell and Veronica Campbell-Brown have already confirmed going to Singapore with the delegation.

Germany firm BSW Regupol, one of the five contractors which is bidding for the project, has quoted US$700,000 to carry out the refurbishing job.
