Grenada struggles with H1N1

The Grenada government has recalled nurses on vacation leave in that country as the island grapples with the Influenza A, (H1N1) virus.

Spokesman in the Health Ministry, Kevil Frederick said following the outbreak of the virus there have been long lines at hospitals and clinics across the island.

Education officials have confirmed that at least 10 schools have been closed and hundreds of students sent home.

Nine new cases were reported over the past few days and Health Minister Ann Peters said no one would be turned away from health institutions amid reports that some clinics were engaged in the practice.

The Health Minister said the hours at clinical facilities have been extended because some people may develop symptoms after closing hours.

Health officials said in addition to the H1N1 virus, Grenada also has to deal with an increase in cases of the regular seasonal influenza and dengue fever.
