The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted to condemn the American trade embargo on Cuba.

The vote came after the Cubans presented the assembly with a resolution condemning the embargo.

The non-binding vote received the backing of 187 countries, covering almost the entire international community.

The United States and Israel were among the three countries that voted against the resolution.

The embargo, which was first introduced in 1962, remains in place up to today.
