President’s Cup Round Up
Jamaica suffered a 90 runs defeat to reigning champions Trinidad and Tobago in the rain-reduced first round West Indies Cricket Board President’s Cup limited-overs match, at the National Stadium in Guyana yesterday.
In a match reduced to 44 overs per side because of a rain delay start, T&T scored 201-9 and Jamaica replied with 111-9 off their 44 overs.
Opening batsman Brenton Parchment, top scored with 23 in Jamaica’s failed run-chase.
Danza Hyatt 16, Andrew Richardson 14 not out and Brendan Nash 12 were the other Jamaicans getting to double figure.
West Indies all rounder Dwayne Bravo and Dave Mohammed took 3 wickets each for T&T, while Kieron Pollard chipped in with 2 wickets.
Earlier, Darren Bravo top scored for T&T with 43, while Denesh Ramdin scored 25 and Samuel Badree 22.
Nikita Miller, Dave Bernard and Odean Brown picked up 2 wickets each for Jamaica.
West Indies players Chris Gayle and Jerome Taylor were omitted from the Jamaica team because of the flu. Shawn Findlay was also missing.
Over at Enmore, Guyana beat Leeward Islands by 3 wickets. Scores in that game, Leeward Islands 193 off 49 points, 5 overs and Guyana 194-7 off 46 points, 1 overs.
Over at Bourda, Barbados defeated West Indies Under-19s by 2 wickets.
Scores in the game, West Indies Under-19s 172-6 off 40 overs, Barbados 177-8 off 38 points, 4 overs.
Over at Everest, Combined Campuses and College beat Windward Islands by one run in their rain-reduced match.
Scores in the game, Combined Campuses and Colleges 178-6 off 44 overs, Windwards Islands 177 off 43 points, 4 overs.
The competition continues tomorrow. Jamaica will tackle Combined Campuses and Colleges and T&T will play Windward Islands in Zone ‘A’ matches, while Barbados will play Guyana, and Leeward Islands will face West Indies Under-19s in Zone ‘B’.
