Haitian PM sacked

Haiti\'s Senate has fired the Prime Minister, Michelle Pierre Louis, from office after a no confidence vote against her.

The vote took place just after midnight following a 10-hour debate.

Mrs Pierre-Louis took office in September last year as Haiti was being hit by one of four tropical storms and hurricanes.

Senators, mostly from President Rene Preval\'s party, said she had failed to deliver and has done nothing to improve the country’s living standards.

In the end, the resolution to dismiss Mrs Pierre-Louis was approved by 18 lawmakers in the 29-member Senate, meeting the requirement for a simple majority.

Opponents had argued against the action, saying it could lead to new political instability in Haiti.
