The Guyana Police have arrested two of their members after the officers allegedly tortured a teenaged boy by burning his genitals while he was in police custody.

Deonarine Rafeik and an unnamed teenager were being interrogated for their alleged involvement in the murder of former lawmaker, Ramnauth Bisram.

According to reports, the teenager was stripped of his clothing and his genitals doused with methylated spirit and set ablaze.

The Guyana Human Rights Association also claimed that the inside of the teen’s mouth was burnt with cigarettes during the interrogation.

The Guyanese police say an investigation has since been launched into the alleged excessive use of force.

The allegation comes amid ongoing investigations into the alleged torture in a similar manner by members of the Guyana Defence Force in 2006.
