Chelsea move five points clear

Chelsea defeated defending champions Manchester United 1-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday, to go five points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League.



Captain John Terry scored the only goal of the game. He glanced home a 76th minute free kick from Frank Lampard.



United had their chances with Wayne Rooney twice going close, but the Blues made it a club record of 11 straight home wins.



In other games, Hull defeated Stoke City 2-1, Everton secured a much needed first win in five Premier League games with a battling 2-1 victory at West Ham, who slipped back into the relegation zone as a result and Wigan played to a 1-1 tie with Fulham.
