Prison officers in Trinidad and Tobago reportedly fear for their lives as gunmen have been targeting workers in correctional facilities in the twin island republic.

A group representing prison officers in Trinidad has described the attacks as serious.

In over a week, two officers have been killed and another injured in a shooting incident.

Trinidad’s Acting Commissioner of Prisons, Martin Martinez said the officers are traumatised by the shootings.

Additionally, he said investigations have revealed that criminals have created a hit list of prison officers.
