Guyana records more than 1,000 cases of dengue fever
Guyana\'s Health Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy has warned that dengue fever would continue to spread in the country due to the careless attitude of citizens.
A report on www.cananews.net says Guyana has recorded 1,000 cases of dengue fever so far this year, more than twice the figure for 2008.
The health minister told a news conference that citizens should take the necessary precautions to avoid being infected by the mosquito-borne disease since it remains a challenge for the country.
“I am urging all families to re-examine their environment and get rid of all tyres and containers that breathe the aedes aegypti mosquitoes which causes the dengue fever,” Dr. Ramsammy said, adding the Ministry of Health has published a number of preventative measures that citizens could adopt.
“I would love for the romanticism that is linked to tyres in Guyana to dissipate so as to ensure that the citizens do not contribute to dengue,” he said.
