US Virgin Islands governor says sorry

The governor of the US Virgin Islands, John DeJongh, has apologized for using public funds for improvements to his private home.
The governor says he will return some of the new fences and security systems to the government after he leaves office.
The improvements are believed to have cost about US$500,000.
The top elected official in the US Virgin Islands was offered an official residence during his tenure in office.
But Governor deJongh had said he preferred to remain at his private home.
