The Guyana-based Caribbean CARICOM Secretariat says it plans to send a mission to St Vincent and the Grenadines to observe the November 25 referendum on a new constitution for the Eastern Caribbean country.

The Secretariat says this will be done in an effort to foster democratic principles and the maintenance of good governance in CARICOM.

The referendum is the first of its kind to be held in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.

The CARICOM Secretariat says the mission will allow for observation and documentation of the process, to be used in the official and historical records of the Community.

The Secretariat says its presence is being supported by the Government of Spain through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
