Jamaican-born Sanya Richards, who competes for the USA, is among five athletes nominated for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Female World Athlete-of-the-Year.

Richards and former winner Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia top the list of athletes for the prestigious award.

Richards, the 400 metres gold medallist at the Berlin World Championships in August, shared this year’s Golden League Jackpot of US$1 million with Isinbayeva and Kenenisa Bekele.

In addition nominated were New Zealand shot-putter Valeri Vili, who has gone unbeaten this year, plus high-jumper Blanka Vlasic of Croatia and Polish hammer thrower Anita Wlodarczyk, both of whom won World Championship gold.

The ceremony will take place at the World Athletics Gala on November 22 in Monte Carlo.
