The Association of Surinamese Journalists is calling for the police to begin a probe into threats being made against the life of one of its members.
Ivan Cairo, a reporter with the De Ware Tijd newspaper, said he has received death threats since publishing a series of articles on the actions of a unit in the police force.
The articles focus on the disappearance of more than 90 kg of cocaine from the unit.
The association said it condemns the threat and is treating the matter seriously.
It also wants the police to launch an investigation into the incident.
