Obama admits delay on Guantanamo

US President Barack Obama has admitted that the US will miss the January 2010 deadline for closing the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba.

More than 200 people are being detained at the camp.

Officials are trying to determine what to do with those detainees.

While not setting a specific new deadline for closing the camp, Mr. Obama indicated that it’s likely to be later in 2010.

Mr. Obama ordered the closure of the prison on January 22, 2009, just two days after taking office.

His administration said it will try some detainees in US courts, and repatriate or resettle others who are not perceived as a threat.
