Four persons have been arrested in Peru on suspicion of killing dozens of people in order to sell their fat and tissue to be used to produce cosmetic products.

The police said the gang targeted people on remote roads in the country and then offered them jobs.

They said the victims are then killed and fat and other tissues removed from their bodies.

The police said the fat and body tissues were sold for as much as US$15,000 a litre.

They believed the gang could be behind the disappearances of up to 60 persons.

Police believe that the fat from the bodies of the victims were sold to cosmetics and pharmaceutical companies in Europe, but they say they have not confirmed any such connection.
