Vincentians to vote on new constitution

Vincentians are slated to go to the polls on Wednesday in a referendum that will decide whether they will accept a new constitution.
The referendum follows a campaign which some say probably set the tone for the next general election, constitutionally due in 2010.
The campaign has led to allegations and counter accusations of foreign interference in the domestic affairs of the country.
Both the government of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and the main opposition New National Party (NNP) mounted large rallies in support of their respective positions on the new constitution.
Both leaders have acknowledged that they are also using the November 25 event to gauge public support ahead of the general election.
